Recurrency’s Transfer Replenishment helps you efficiently move inventory between your locations using a hub-and-spoke model. Instead of manually creating transfers, our system recommends transfers based on your predefined inventory paths. This allows teams to efficiently distribute inventory across their network of warehouses.
This feature works in conjunction with existing purchase order processes in Recurrency, providing an additional tool to manage inventory distribution on an as-needed basis.
Replenishment Models
Recurrency supports two hub-and-spoke replenishment models:
Strict Hub-and-Spoke:
Consistent Routing: Always transfer inventory through predefined paths, ensures consistent inventory routing, and stabilizes demand across locations
Efficient Transfers: Uses Transfer Replenishment to move inventory from Hubs to Spokes, instead of purchasing to individual locations
Flexible Hub-and-Spoke:
Cost Optimization: Allows more dynamic inventory movement, can purchase directly into locations, and potentially reduces transfer costs
Dynamic Decisions: Review potential transfers and determine whether to transfer or purchase to any given location
Getting Started
Navigate to the Transfer Order Replenishment page. Here you'll find a comprehensive overview of potential transfers across your locations.
The main screen displays critical information, including:
Source Location
Destination Location
Last Transfer Date
Review Schedule and Next Review Date
Recommended Transfer Lines and Total Line Cost
Status
Actions
For any Source Location and Destination Location pair, determine the Review Schedule. Recurrency will mark a transfer “Ready for Review” based on this configurable review schedule.
Every time a Transfer is created in Recurrency or a location pair is “Marked as Reviewed,” the cycle will begin on the next day that matches this schedule.
Select the Source Location and Destination Location (or locations) you want to review, and access the Transfer Builder.
The Required field in the Transfer Builder shows inventory Recurrency recommends transferring between locations. These recommendations depend on:
Your location settings
Current stock levels
Min and Max stock requirements
In the Transfer Builder, you'll see all potential transferable lines from the Source Location to the Destination Location. Lines Recurrency recommends transferring are highlighted in light blue, making it easy to identify optimal inventory movements. For every line item, you will see key details including:
Status: Normal, Understock, Overstock, Backordered, Special, Nonstock
Source Location Data: Net Stock, Quantity Available, and Transfer Quantity Available
Destination Location Data: Net Stock, Quantity Available, and Required.
Transfer Quantities and UOMs
Additional details such as Unit Weight, Volume, and Cost
Next, you’ll review recommended transfers, adjust quantities if needed, and select the appropriate unit of measure in your settings under Purchasing Automation if different from the default. Options you’ll want to consider include:
Transfer to Zero: Move all available inventory
Transfer to Minimum Stock: Keep a minimum stock level
Transfer to Maximum: Reduce overstock
Once you have determined quantities to transfer, navigate to the next page. Here, you will be able to review location transfer details including transfer days, total weight, volume, and dollars, and lines to be transferred.
You can determine whether to send the transfer as Approved or Unapproved into your ERP, and select the preferred carrier for the transfer.
Once it all looks as expected, send the transfer into your ERP, which will then create the transfer order.
Transfer Replenishment Settings
There are several configurable settings to further customize Transfer Replenishment behavior:
Transfer Replenishment Default UoM: Define the default unit of measure for transfers across Purchasing, Sales, or Base UoM.
Transfer Backorders: Enable the option to create transfer backorders if sufficient inventory is not available.
Default Transfer Cycle (days): Set a default number of days for the transfer review cycle.
Transfer Thresholds by Location
You can configure transfer thresholds at the location level to control the maximum amount of inventory that should be transferred:
Above Min: Transfers inventory to maintain net stock levels above the minimum at the source location.
Above Max: Transfers inventory to maintain net stock levels below the maximum at the source location.
Net Stock: Allows for transferring the entire net stock of the source location.
Troubleshooting
Common Questions
Can I transfer between non-adjacent locations? No, transfers follow your predefined replenishment paths
What if I don't have enough inventory? The system will show partial transfer quantities and recommend transfer backorders
Advanced Tips
You can use weight and volume data to optimize truck loading
Set up recurring transfer schedules for consistent inventory flow
The system can handle multi-tier replenishment paths, where there are multiple levels of locations (e.g. hub, middle, and bottom). Transfers need to be done sequentially, from the top level to the middle, and then from the middle to the bottom.
Recurrency provides flexibility in terms of how much inventory can be transferred, allowing users to transfer all available, down to the minimum level, or down to the maximum level.
