💡 Closed Beta: Chat with your Data is rolling out as an invite-only closed beta. If you're a beta partner, Recurrency will enable it for your instance. If you don’t see it, contact your Customer Success Manager.

Overview

Chat with your Data is an AI assistant inside Recurrency. You type a question the way you’d ask a planner or buyer on your team — Which A items am I about to stock out of? — and it looks up the answer in your Recurrency data.

It can return:

  • A written answer with the key findings

  • A downloadable table

  • A chart (bar, line, or pie)

  • Links into Planning for the items it mentions

It reads your data. It does not change min/max values, create purchase orders, or send anything to your ERP.

💡 Note: Chat with your Data is for questions about your inventory, demand, purchasing, and sales. For how Recurrency itself works, use the Help Center or in-app support.

Where to find it

There are two ways into Chat with your Data. Use whichever matches what you’re doing.

1. The Chat with Data page (best for exploring)

Use this when you want to start a new investigation, keep several conversations, or pick a starter question.

  1. In the left navigation, open Chat with Data.

  2. You’ll see the prompt "What do you want to learn about your inventory today?", plus starter cards such as: Where am I most overstocked right now?; Which dead stock is tying up the most cash?; Which A items am I about to stock out of?; Which slow movers are picking up speed?

  3. Click a card, or type your own question in the box at the bottom.

2. The page assistant (best for “this item / this screen”)

Use this when you’re already looking at something — Planning, Daily Workflow, a customer, a PO — and you want to ask about what’s on the screen.

  1. Click the chat icon in the upper-right header, next to Help Center (the question mark) and your profile.

  2. A panel opens on the right titled Chat with your data, with a Beta badge.

  3. The green bar at the top says Reading the page you have open. Questions run against that page, including the filters you’ve applied. Change pages and the context follows.

  4. Type a question. The placeholder is Why is this item flagged? — that’s the kind of question this panel is built for.

💡 You can drag the panel by the title bar and resize it from the edges or corners so it doesn’t cover the table you’re looking at.

How to ask a question

  1. Open either the Chat with Data page or the page assistant.

  2. Type a complete question. Include what you want, where (location, supplier, buyer), and when (last 90 days, next 7 days) when it matters.

  3. Press Enter or click send.

  4. Watch the assistant work. It will query your data and then write an answer. Tables and charts appear in the conversation when they’re useful.

  5. Follow up in the same thread. You don’t need to repeat the context — Now just A items at Dallas or Why is the min dropping on the first one? is enough.

Good first questions:

  • Give me an executive summary of our inventory performance over the last 90 days.

  • Which A items am I about to stock out of at Dallas?

  • Where is most of our inventory investment tied up?

  • How much dead stock do we currently own?

  • Why is Recurrency recommending this change?

Don’t stop at one prompt. Ask what is true today, then where it doesn’t match, then what to change first.

For what makes a strong prompt and a full library you can copy, see Getting Better Answers from Chat with your Data.

What you’ll see in the answer

  • Written summary. The assistant explains the finding in plain English.

  • Tables. Multi-row results show up as a table you can scan and download (same Excel download as other Recurrency tables).

  • Charts. Trends, comparisons, and mix questions often come back as a bar, line, or pie chart. Those are downloadable too.

  • Links into Planning. When the answer is about planning items, names in the text, table rows, and chart points can link to that item in Planning. Click through to verify the recommendation before you act.

Managing conversations

On the Chat with Data page

  • Recent in the left sidebar lists your saved conversations. Click one to reopen it.

  • New chat starts a fresh thread. Use this when you switch topics so the assistant isn’t mixing two investigations.

  • Hover a conversation to rename or delete it.

  • Recurrency keeps up to 25 saved conversations in this browser. If you hit the limit, delete older ones to start a new chat.

The conversation title is taken from your first question. Rename it if you’ll want to find it later.

In the page assistant

  • Closing the panel does not erase the thread. Reopen it and you’ll still have the recent conversation.

  • Refreshing the page also restores recent context.

  • The eraser icon in the panel header clears the current conversation so you can start clean.

  • The X closes the panel without clearing it.

Conversations are stored in this browser, for this user and this instance. They are not a shared team inbox. A different computer or a cleared browser cache will not show the same history.

What Chat with your Data does not do

This matters as much as what it does.

It can

It cannot

Answer questions about your Recurrency data

Change min/max, lead time, safety stock, or any other setting

Show recommended vs current values

Accept, override, or send updates to your ERP

Explain why a recommendation looks the way it does

Create, edit, or submit purchase orders or transfers

Export a table or chart from the answer

Run automations or “fix it for me”

Follow up in the same conversation

Replace Planning, Daily Workflow, or Purchasing

If you want Recurrency to do something, use Planning, Daily Workflow, or Purchasing after you’ve used chat to understand the situation.

Chat with your Data also will not answer general “how does Recurrency work?” questions well. Those belong in the Help Center, or in Fin (on the bottom-right hand side of your screen).

Tips for the beta

  • Verify before you act. Treat the answer like a skilled analyst’s first pass, not a system of record. Click through to Planning and confirm the numbers.

  • Stay on one topic per chat. If you switch from overstock to a single item’s lead time, start a new conversation.

  • Correct it. If it mixed up min/max with OP/OQ, or used the wrong location, say so and ask it to redo the answer. Follow-ups work.

  • Keep questions about your data. The more specific the operational question, the better the answer.

FAQ

Q: Who can use Chat with your Data?

A: Users on instances where Recurrency has enabled the beta. If you don’t see Chat with Data in the left nav or the chat icon in the header, ask your Customer Success Manager.

Q: Does it use the same data I see in Recurrency?

A: Yes. It queries your Recurrency data. Refresh timing matches the rest of the product — see Frequency of Data Refreshes.

Q: Does Chat with your Data change anything in Recurrency or my ERP?

A: No. It is read-only. Nothing it says is written back to Recurrency or P21 until you take an action yourself in Planning, Daily Workflow, or Purchasing.

Q: Why does the page assistant say “Reading the page you have open”?

A: So it can interpret “this item,” “this supplier,” or “these filters” without you repeating them. It still verifies against the database rather than trusting the on-screen numbers alone.

Q: Can I share a conversation with a coworker?

A: Not yet. Conversations live in your browser. You can download tables/charts from the answer and share those, or copy the written summary.

Q: Is this the same as the Help Center chatbot (Fin)?

A: No. Fin answers questions about how to use Recurrency. Chat with your Data answers questions about your company’s data.

Q: Can it take industry news or events into account?

A: Its job is to query your Recurrency data. If an answer cites something that isn’t in your data, treat that as context to discuss with your team — then confirm the numbers in Recurrency before you buy, transfer, or change a min/max.
